Getting your inquiries rejected on Contra? This guide is designed to help you make the improvements needed to get your messages sent.

Update your profile photo

We recommend using a high-quality headshot, but any clear photo of you works! Your inquiry may be rejected if your profile photo is low quality, poorly cropped or unrelated to you or your company. Your profile photo can be updated on your profile.

Update your social link

To maintain trust and transparency within the Contra community, we require clients to link at least one verified social profile to their Contra account, such as LinkedIn. If your hiring account is connected to a company, it's also helpful if this social link shows your connection to your company.

To update your social link or add a new one, go to your Profile > click "About" and then click the pencil icon next to your social links.

Update your email address

Make sure your account email matches your name and/or is connected to your company domain if you are hiring on behalf of a company. To update the email address connected to your account, go to Settings > Account Information.

Review your message

Inquiries that contain content flagged as spam or that seem suspicious will be rejected. This includes:

  • Messages with very low or very high budgets

  • Messages that are too vague or generic

  • Messages that seem promotional rather than focused on hiring talent

  • Messages using the wrong name or sending multiple generic messages in a row

If you believe your message content's or rate may be the issue behind your inquiry's rejection, you can send a new inquiry to the same user with more information.
